  • Have put this up for sale on a well known auction site. 31 watching so far and lots of emails, there must be an awful lot of Hafis in bits waiting for parts. When they all get on the road we will be having ginormous Trefffens.
  • John, I already bought the rubbers from autoquariat and the profile is ok but it is a straight length, not a moulded piece like the original. I did get the very sharp modelling knife out and have modified so it does fit better. However, I also have…
  • John, I can't remember if your spare is 4 or 5 speed. If the cover plate on the front is diagonal it's a 5 speed, if it's horizontal it's a 4. I would suggest that the box and diff you have are probably in better condition than the ones on my spare …
  • John, I thought there was one in 'the pile' with all the spare heat exchangers. Have you looked? Nigel
  • Have spoken to Julian and we are in discussion but would still be interested if anyone has any Polycab spares and in particular the door window rubbers.
  • Have finally got to the bottom of the problem. The gauge is goosed. I had an old Smiths fuel gauge and put that on and it showed half a tank, which is what is there according to the Mk 1 piece of garden cane. So here I am looking for a new (?) VDO g…
  • My fuel gauge is proving interesting. The gauge now shows full even when there are no wires connected. I have tried lots of different combinations of connections on the back and nothing makes any difference. I have even taken the fuel filler cap off…
  • Are you just wanting the cushions or the frames as well? I have just had two new cushions made and have a seat base cover that is now deconstructed and was used as a pattern that you are welcome to borrow. Give me  a call if of interest.
  • Thanks John. Yes, I would buy all 4 in one go, but I just wonder end if anyone else had bought the real things from anywhere, and at what cost. N
  • Thanks John. Have changed the regulator for a good spare. The contacts in the old one were well burnt out. All now fine. Charging light now goes out much earlier and stays off during normal running. At least this has confirmed the Dynastarter is ok.…

  • Sometimes things are much simpler than you might think. In the end the old horn was kn.......red and was blowing the fuse. Aha you might say, why didn't I check the fuses first. Which of course I had done. But I only checked the fuse panel on the da…
  • Thanks both. I have a spare, ish day tomorrow as apart from the horn and collecting my seat squabs I am ready for the Treffen so I will have another look. I did measure the red wires at the horn with the (new) button pressed and got b' all so I wil…
  • John I have always used Footman James and found them very competitive for all my various machines over time. They have a specialist department for classic vehicles. Nigel

  • Have finished applying the epoxy primer today. Hafi looks quite different in grey. High build primer tomorrow after a little light flattening. Then let it sit for a week. Top coat is being mixed for delivery next week. Will probably get the cab sort…
  • Just been to Halfords for some fibreglass repair stuff and found some Tiger seal on the shelf so have acquired some. They told me they have only just started to stock it so I was their first customer for it. The video is certainly impressive. N
  • Thanks John, I wonder why I never thought of that. Perhaps I couldn't get a flowerpot big enough

  • Wow, that looks good stuff. Thanks John.
  • Have now engaged a local classic car upholster to make me two seat squabs. He can use the innards of my tatty one, but says the rubberised horsehair stiffening is not available for the other one. He is going to use some stiff plastic sheet with foam…

  • Thanks John. I had already gone down the marine route but both the boatyards near to me said they couldn't supply RAL colours. In the end I found a supplier on line. I am going to use an epoxy primer that is in a spray can, then a brush coat of fil…
  • Thanks John. My view as well. I have used double sided tape for various domestic items but never really been ver impressed. I have never heard of tiger seal. Will have to research that. I did have some spray carpet glue once that was very good, migh…
  • All the backs that I have have sleeves sewn in to the back to contain the rubber straps. That way the back can,t slip down like the one in your picture. Is that correct?

  • I actually have some new genuine ones that I bought some years ago and the spring clips so have enough to replace both seats. The frames are ok so while the cushions are off they will get repainted. Btw, both my seats fold forward. The Pirelli webb…

  • Thanks John but I am not sure they would be a tight enough fit. As you say, someone must make something similar. Yes the seat bases are the same. There is a firm in Malton near York who can make me one, and they may also know where I can get clips t…

  • Thanks John, i knew you would know. I am off to York tomorrow so will visit the local vw agent or partco.
  • Good news. My Hafi now has an MOT. My very nice MOT man passed it with just two advisories, both for the ball joints on the steering arm.  There is a small amount of play !!!!!!!!   So the next question is where to source the joints from. Obviously …
  • Its definitely the transfer box. The main gearbox is ok. And trust me,as soon as i have an mot i will be showing the land rovers in my trialling club what haf can do.
  • Current situation is that brake light fault was a bad connection behind the dash. Handbrake lever has been adjusted so its not round my ears when on. My mot garage opens on monday after the hols and will book it in for this wed if poss as i have a f…
  • Thanks John, i knew you would have some helpful info. I shall be out in the garage again tomorrow. I got totally frustrated this afternoon. Why does it all have to be so complicated. I thought old cars were supposed to be easy to work on. I will re…
  • Thanks John, I knew you would have the answer.
  • Just had the 5 new Maloyas fited to my newly powder coated wheels. But, being the Hafi peasant that I am, I hadn,t realised that Maloyas are handed. Depending on which way they are put on the rim they are for left or right side only. Which means tha…
